Engineering guide / avocado line cost
Avocado processing line cost and configuration
A line price is only comparable when the scope, capacity boundary and acceptance conditions are the same. Use the cost drivers below to structure a quotation request.
01
Capacity is a boundary, not a single number
Whole-fruit input, accepted flesh and finished packs are different quantities. A line quoted at 1 t/h whole fruit may produce far less finished product. Ask every supplier to state the measurement point, operating hours and assumptions behind the rate.
| Cost driver | What changes | How to compare |
|---|---|---|
| Capacity | Machine size and buffer volume | Same mass boundary and hours |
| Preparation | Manual, assisted or mechanical | Labour, recovery and quality |
| Texture | Finisher, cutter or both | Product range and changeover |
| Packaging | Bulk, pouch, cup or retail | Pack rate and seal scope |
| Utilities | Water, power, heat, cold, air | Include site works |
| Documentation | Drawings, manuals, trials | Named deliverables |
02
Preparation method is a major divider
Manual, assisted and mechanical peeling have different labour, recovery, floor space and cleaning implications. A lower machine price can be offset by labour, poor recovery or inconsistent quality. Compare the total operating cost over a realistic season.
03
Texture path changes the equipment
Finishing, cutting, low-shear mixing and particle-friendly filling are not interchangeable. A dual-texture line adds bypasses, changeover and cleaning. Define the product range before asking for a combined line.
04
Materials, controls and utilities add scope
Stainless-steel grade, surface finish, seals, motors, controls, CIP connections and safety guards all affect price. So do water, drainage, steam, chilled water, compressed air and floor works. A quotation that excludes these is not the full project cost.
05
Validation and documentation are part of the project
Trials, samples, drawings, manuals, control logic, spare parts and commissioning need named responsibilities. Food-safety validation, shelf life and preservation remain product-specific and may require external expertise.
